The Satyanarayan Puja is performed in reverence to the Narayan form of Lord Vishnu. The Lord in this form is considered an embodiment of truth (Satya). This puja is often performed to celebrate success, during housewarming, or on Purnima (full moon) days to invite happiness, truth, and abundance.

Mandap Setup
Set up a wooden chowki. Tie the four banana stems to its four corners to create a canopy (Mandap). Spread a yellow cloth (Lord Vishnu's favorite color) and place the photo/idol of Lord Satyanarayan and the Shaligram.
Sankalpa & Kalash Sthapana
Take a vow (Sankalpa) for the puja. Establish a Kalash on the right side of the altar filled with water, coin, and topped with mango leaves and a coconut. This represents Lord Varuna.
Ganesh & Navagraha Pujan
Before worshipping Vishnu, you must worship Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles. Then, perform a brief worship of the Navagrahas (nine planets) by placing nine small heaps of rice on a betel leaf.
Satyanarayan Avahan & Pujan
Invoke Lord Satyanarayan. Wash His feet (symbolically). Offer Panchamrit Snan. Offer yellow clothes, Chandan, and Akshat. Crucial: Offer generous amounts of Tulsi leaves, as Vishnu puja is incomplete without Tulsi.
Reading the Katha
The core of the ritual is reading the Satyanarayan Katha. It consists of 5 chapters describing the origin, benefits, and miracles of the Puja. Everyone present must listen to the Katha with absolute silence and devotion.
Maha Aarti & Prasad Distribution
Perform the grand Aarti of Lord Satyanarayan. The special Prasad is Sheera (roasted wheat flour cooked with sugar, ghee, and banana pieces) mixed with Panchamrit and Tulsi. Distribute this Prasad generously.
