Step-by-Step Vidhi

1

Altar Preparation

Place the Shiva Linga on a proper Jaladhari (base) in a deep vessel so the liquids can collect and flow out smoothly. Prepare all the Abhishek liquids (Milk, Curd, Ghee, Honey, Sugar) in separate clean bowls.

2

Sankalpa & Invocation

Take water in your right hand and make a Sankalpa (vow) stating your specific intention (e.g., health, peace, success) for performing the Abhishek. Invoke Lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvati before starting.

3

The Abhishek (Bathing Ritual)

This is the core ritual. Using the Shringi or a conch shell, continuously pour Gangajal over the Linga. Then sequentially pour Milk, Curd, Ghee, Honey, and Sugarcane juice. While pouring, you must continuously chant 'Om Namah Shivaya', the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, or the Rudra Suktam.

4

Final Wash & Shringaar

After all liquids are offered, give a final thorough wash with pure Gangajal. Dry the Linga gently with a clean cloth. Apply three horizontal lines of Vibhuti (Tripundra) and a dot of Chandan in the center.

5

Offering Bilva Patra

Offer 108 Bilva Patra (Bael leaves) one by one, chanting Shiva's names. Ensure the smooth side of the leaf touches the Linga. Offer Datura, Aak flowers, and Bhang.

6

Maha Aarti

Light a multi-tiered lamp or a camphor lamp and perform the Shiva Aarti ('Om Jai Shiva Omkara'). The liquid collected from the Abhishek (Charanamrit) is highly sacred and should be distributed as Prasad.
