Ganesh Chaturthi Sthapana

Welcoming Lord Ganesha home with the correct Vedic rituals and devotion.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the arrival of Lord Ganesha to earth from Kailash Parvat. Ganesha is the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta) and the god of new beginnings. The Sthapana (installation) of the idol is a joyous occasion that should be done with proper Vedic rites to invite immense positive energy.

Step-by-Step Vidhi

1

Cleaning & Aasan Preparation

Clean the platform (Chowki) and spread a clean red or yellow cloth. Create a Swastik with Kumkum in the center of the cloth and place a handful of Akshat (rice) over it as an Aasan (seat) for the Lord.

2

Sthapana (Installation)

Respectfully place the Ganesh idol on the rice bed. Chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye Namah' and visualize Lord Ganesha entering your home. Do not move the idol after Sthapana until Visarjan.

3

Pran Pratishtha (Invoking Life)

This is the most critical step. Through mantras, request the divine spirit to enter the Murti. If you don't know the mantras, simply pray with folded hands and immense devotion for Him to accept the Murti as His temporary abode.

4

Shodashopachara Pujan (16 Steps)

Offer a symbolic bath using Gangajal. Offer fresh clothes (Moli) and the Janeu (sacred thread). Apply a Tilak of Chandan and Kumkum. Offer Akshat and a beautiful garland of red Hibiscus flowers.

5

Offering Durva & Naivedya

Offer 21 blades of Durva grass (this is highly প্রিয় to Lord Ganesha). Present the Naivedya: offer 21 Modaks, Ladoos, seasonal fruits, and a cracked coconut as Prasad.

6

Aarti & Pushpanjali

Perform the Aarti using a Ghee diya and camphor while singing 'Jai Ganesh Deva'. Distribute the Prasad to everyone present. Perform this Aarti twice a day (morning and evening) until Visarjan.
