Diwali, the festival of lights, is incomplete without the traditional Lakshmi and Ganesh Puja. Lord Ganesha is worshipped first to remove all obstacles (Vighnaharta), and Goddess Lakshmi is invoked to bestow spiritual and material wealth. Performing this ritual with pure devotion during the Pradosh Kaal Muhurat is highly auspicious.

Pavitrikaran (Purification) & Sankalpa
Sit facing the East or North direction. Take a few drops of Gangajal in your right hand and sprinkle it over yourself and the Puja area, chanting 'Om Apavitrah Pavitro Va...'. Take water, Akshat, and flowers in your right hand to take a formal Sankalpa (vow) stating your name, gotra, and intention for the puja.
Deep Prajjawalan & Swasti Vachan
Light the main Akhand Diya (lamp). It should remain lit throughout the night. Chant the Swasti Vachan mantras for peace and auspiciousness.
Ganesh & Navagraha Pujan
Always begin with Lord Ganesha. Offer a symbolic bath (Snan) using Gangajal and Panchamrit. Offer new vastra (Moli), Janeu, Roli, Akshat, and Durva grass. Perform a brief worship of the Navagrahas (nine planets) to remove any cosmic obstacles.
Lakshmi Avahan & Kalash Sthapana
Place a copper Kalash filled with water, coin, and supari on a bed of rice. Place mango leaves at the neck and a coconut on top. Place Goddess Lakshmi's idol on the red cloth. Meditate upon her and invite her into your home.
Shodashopachara Pujan (16-Step Worship)
Offer Goddess Lakshmi a bath (Panchamrit Snan). Adorn her with Haldi, Kumkum, Sandalwood paste, and a garland of Lotus or Marigold flowers. Offer Shringaar items, Kamal Gatta, and Cowry shells. Offer Naivedya consisting of Kheel, Batasha, fruits, and homemade sweets.
Kuber & Lekhni Pujan
Worship Lord Kuber (the treasurer of wealth) by placing your safe/locker keys, account books (Bahi Khata), and silver coins on the altar. Apply a Swastik with Roli on your account books.
Maha Aarti & Pushpanjali
Stand up and perform the grand Aarti of Lord Ganesha ('Jai Ganesh Deva') followed by Goddess Lakshmi ('Om Jai Lakshmi Mata') using a camphor lamp. Conclude by offering a handful of flowers (Pushpanjali) and asking for forgiveness for any mistakes (Kshama Prarthana).
